Philibob'spersonalstatement

IfindthefieldsofArtificialIntelligenceandGamesPhysicsinterestingandsoIhavedecidedtostudyacoursetoincludetheseareas.IamcurrentlystudyinganAlevelinInformationTechnologyinwhichIhaveusedVisualBasicinMicrosoftExcelandAccess.AthomeIhaveusedtheactionscriptlanguageinMacromediaFlashtobuildaninteractivepersonalwebsite.IfoundthisaspectofcomputingveryinterestingandsoIwillreallyenjoyprogramminginC++andotherprogramminglanguages.IamalsostudyinganAlevelinMathematicsthatIreallyenjoy.Thiswouldbeusefulformanypartsofthecoursesuchasgamesphysics.

WhenI’veplayedcomputergamesinthepastIhavealwayswantedtobeabletocreatesomethingsimilar.Consequently,thecomputergamesprogrammingcoursestoodoutassomethingthatIreallywantedtodo.IhaveusedsomesoftwareprogramssuchasMicrosoftVisualBasic,Softimage|XSIESP3.0,Discreet3DSMAX5(evaluationversion)andMayaPersonalLearningEdition.Iwouldliketoseepeople’senjoymentwhenplayingagame,knowingthatItookpartinproducingit.IhaveemailedafewprogrammingcompaniessuchasValveSoftware,idsoftware,Lionsoft,ElectronicArtsandCodemastersexplainingmysituationandaskingwhetheritwouldbebettertotakeagamesprogrammingcourseorasoftwaredevelopmentcourseandlearngamespecificitemsafterwardsorinmysparetime.AlloftherepliesadvisedmetotakethecomputergamesprogrammingcourseasthiswayIwouldalreadypossessthegamesprogrammingknowledge.Undertakingmyworkexperienceasasalesassistantinacomputerstoreallowedmetodevelopskillssuchasworkinginateamanddealingwithcustomers.AlthoughIwasworkingwithothersalotofthetime,Ialsohadtoworkindependently.Thisallowedmetousemyowninitiativeandsolveproblems.WhilstattendingSuttonHighSportsCollege,Ihavedonealargeamountofvoluntarywork.Duringyears10and11,IhelpedwiththeschoolsopendaysandsportsdayswhereIdidscoring.Ialsotookpartinafterschoolactivitiessuchasplayingmusic.OutsideofschoolIhavehelpedat“DarbyandJoan’s”whichisforoldagedpensionerswheretheycangettogetherforcompany,andtotalkandplaybingo.Year12sawmehelpingwiththeyear6inductionday,andassistingwithscoringonboththeschool’sopendayandtheSt.HelensAthleticFinals.Participationinafirstaidcoursegainedmeacertificatein“EmergencyAidintheworkplaceforAppointedPersons.”Thisinvolvedareassuchasresuscitationandcontrolofbleeding.Hobbiesandinterestsincludereadingbooks;thegenrespreferredbeingsciencefictionandhorror.IalsolikeplayingpianoofwhichIamcurrentlyworkingtowardsgrade8,andIhaveplayed“TheSkaters’Waltz”atParrHall(aconcerthall)inWarrington.Ienjoyusingmycomputerforplayinggames,includingplayinggamesonline,andforusingtheinternettokeepuptodatewithcurrentnewsinthecomputingandgamingworld,newhardwareandsoftwarereleases.Myinterestscoverawidearea,whichIbelievewillhelpmeinbothacademicandsociallifeatuniversity.

MyaimistobecomeacomputergamesprogrammerdevelopinganytypeofgameforPCorconsole,andIbelievethatauniversitycoursewillhelpmeachievemygoal.
